4×4 Damper

4×4 Destinations Damperdamper-2

A great way to feed the bellies on your next 4×4 trip, simple to make while camping and the camp oven can be stored in the caravan or camping trailer. I always keep mine the draw of my 4×4.

  1. Start by pre-heating your camp oven on the coals of the fire (Move about a shovel full of coals to the side of the fire)
  2. Mix the following ingredients in a bowl, to make a dough consistency450g (3 cups) self-raising flour
    Pinch of salt
  3. Place the dough on a pre greased trivet
  4. Place the trivet inside the camp oven
  5. Put the camp oven back on the coals and place some coals on top of the camp oven.
  6. Wait about 10-15 mins to let the damper cook, once cooked it will sound hollow when tapped.
  7. When cooked, allow to cool on the trivet
  8. Whilst still warm, serve slices of damper with butter
  9. Enjoy!
